On March 8, 2024, Jiaxing Senior High School (BCOS) held a parents’ meeting for Grade 11 students successfully. Thanks to all the parents who were present, and let’s all work to become our children’s most outstanding companions. The main purpose of the meeting was to explain in detail the requirements for applying to university and the curriculum for grade 12, answering questions from parents and students.

As we know, the second year of high school is crucial, as we start to make the necessary preparations for applying to universities, and the first thing that comes first is undoubtedly academics. Firstly, this semester is different in that, in addition to the two compulsory courses, there are two electives, Accounting and Physics, which are aimed at science and engineering majors and business majors, respectively. These two electives allow each student to choose a subject that interests them and in which they excel.

Starting in September, Grade 11 students will have to successively apply to the universities. Mr. O’Ryan detailed the criteria for applying to prestigious universities in Canada and other countries, which includes requirements for academic performance, the preparation of the recommendation letter, the writing of personal statements, and various events and contests. Mr. O’ Ryan also emphasized the importance of applying to universities as early as possible. The requirement to achieve the IELTS score of the ideal university is secondary. Applying to universities early is the first thing to think about.

Moreover, Mr. O’Ryan provided parents with detailed advice on how to proceed and several important courses that will be offered in the next semester, which gives parents and students sufficient time to consider what to do next. Among them, Mr. O’Ryan highlighted the considerations when looking for an agent to help write a university application letter. The content of the application letter must be truly real. Each student’s application letter needs to be verified by Mr. O’Ryan before he signs it. In addition, even though agents can provide some professional help, there are certain risks. Parents and students should choose carefully and communicate with agents according to their situation and requirements.

Mr. O ‘Ryan deeply explained the curriculum of grade 12 for parents. Compared with grade 10 and grade 11, the difficulty of the courses in grade 12 has been greatly improved, such as mathematics and English. Students are expected to learn the basics and do lots of practice and exams.

At the end of the parents’ meeting, BCOS teachers answered different kinds of questions in detail from the parents. This parents’ meeting not only provided valuable information for parents and students, but also promoted cooperation between home and school. I believe that with the efforts of BCOS school, students can achieve excellent distinction grades definitely in the rest period of grade 11 and the whole grade 12.  Let’s go to our dream universities and start a new chapter of our lives.
