At present, this boy is not only a humble monitor in the eyes of his classmates and teachers, but also an exceptional student with offers from world-famous universities and rich scholarships. In the past three years, he had not only excellent academic performance, but also successively won the top 3.9% in Waterloo mathematics contest, first place in the school team mathematics competition, top 30% in American Physics Bowl competition, the second prize in Zhejiang Province English Competition, and the third place in Jiaxing”Mayor’s Cup” Soccer Competition.

Three years ago, he firmly wrote down Jiaxing BCOS as the only option on his high school application form. So, why did he make this choice without any hesitation?

Charles: Before junior high school I never thought of studying abroad, until my father listened to BCOS’ enrolment presentation which made him deeply attracted, and we gradually developed the idea of going abroad. After we decided to go abroad, we compared many international schools in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, and finally chose Jiaxing BCOS. There are many reasons for making this choice, and what attracted me the most was the classes with all foreign teachers in Jiaxing BCOS. Lessons in Jiaxing BCOS are completely consistent with the Canadian high school curriculum, which is different from many international schools. Many international schools are just like traditional Chinese high schools. They teach in Chinese style to complete the entrance requirements of international universities, and that’s not what I want. After making a preliminary choice, my parents and I contacted several students currently studying in Jiaxing BCOS, and each of them highly praised their school. Through the conversations with them, I found that Jiaxing BCOS was a strong cohesive family, and my experiences in the past three years living there also confirmed this. Students are willing to help each other, they are very united, and everyone learns confidently. The unique environment here requires students to communicate fully in English at school. Having classes in different classrooms and the integration of western culture in classes perfectly restores the local Canadian classes. This is a real international school, and that makes me satisfied. Finally, I chose Jiaxing BCOS for my high school. It was the only choice in my high school application form, and I still have a deep impression about that. Looking back now, I had a very fulfilling time studying in the past three years, and I feel very happy with the decision I made three years ago.

In Jiaxing BCOS, every student’s ideas and choices are respected. Not only in learning, but also in extracurricular activities, including sports and volunteers. Charles was a busy person in the three years in Jiaxing BCOS. While keeping excellent grades, he was also a member of the school Frisbee team and the football team, and he participated in various sports tournaments. So, how does he manage his time?

Charles: My time management is “naughty”. There’s no completely fixed pattern, because I prefer to manage my time flexibly. Generally, there is always a deadline for homework. Usually I will finish the homework with a closer deadline, but sometimes I will also choose to finish the small assignments right away so that I don’t need to worry about them anymore. If there is a group discussion or group presentation to go, I will choose to complete the group task first. Group marks are evaluated together, and I can’t drag my group members down.

I give myself a lot of “lazy” time. For example, if the previous task has been completed on time and the next task is due far away, I will reward myself, to develop my hobbies, play sports with my classmates, or play soccer after school. The principle of all these is that homework must be handed in on time. Sometimes homework is heavy, and then there will be no soccer. Homework always has the priority. Before doing my homework, I evaluate how long it will take me every time. Usually I do my homework before I go out to play, but if the homework is quick to finish, sometimes I give my time for my hobbies first. In fact, sports and learning are not contradictory. I seldom play video games, so I can spend more time playing soccer or throwing Frisbee. Having fun is also a part of learning, and study will be tiring for me if there’s no sport.

In addition to study and sports, Charles was also the president of the school student Council. He assisted the school in organizing and planning various activities. He was a capable assistant of teachers, careful and responsible. He was also a friendly class monitor, and often helped his classmates patiently. Let’s see how he views those school activities?

Organizing these activities is a test of our leadership and communication skills. Last year’s family day was the one that gives me the most impression. From the arrangement of seats to the whole layout of the event, it took so much time and effort. In the end, when I eventually saw the event successfully held, I felt a strong sense of fulfillment and excitement. In organizing the school activities, how to encourage everyone to participate actively and how to make everyone willing to follow the plans are also something important I learned. I believe those are also necessary life skills for the future when I leave campus life. Of course, there are also many volunteers who work very hard behind every school event. When the activities end and people gradually leave, there are always many students who volunteer to help with the finishing work. I am touched by their silent efforts. In addition to the improvements in my leadership, the experience of guiding students to contribute to the school has also brought me confidence. I feel very grateful to be a member in the student council. Working for the school with my classmates not only brings me a sense of achievement, but also brings me happiness.
