Welcome to the BCOS Fine Arts Auction!

Principal Mr. O’Ryan started the event by introducing the process and rules of the event in a humorous tone. Students were divided into ten groups, and each group was given $15 in virtual currency to use in the auction. The students’ artwork was used as the auction items, and the total actual value of the artwork obtained by each group through the auction was used to determine the ranking of the competition.

The group then went to the meeting room to see the pieces that would be auctioned off and to discuss with their group members the pieces they intended to bid on and their true value. One by one, everyone returned to the classroom and the auction started with a lot of cheering.

The first group was the photos, Daisy and Joy’s works were presented in front of the students’ eyes, the dancing girls, the cheering in the painting, and the fluorescent sea formed by the students, all these beautiful moments were engraved in the photos and also in their hearts. From the beginning, everyone was very nervous, and the classroom was very quiet, and the auction gradually came to a climax.

Next came the paintings up. A pensive teenager and a remake of Place de la Concorde came up and caused a stir. In the painting, light outlined the teenager’s silhouette, interspersed with ultramarine-colored night. In the glow of the lights, he seems to be in trouble, his eyes downcast in the neon glow of the drink vending machine. The true value of the painting was hotly debated within each group, with many students feeling that it must have the highest actual value, and that a shot at it would give them a good chance of winning. The other was a parody of Mondrian’s Place de la Concorde, offering a harmonious colorful feast for the eyes with its neo-stylized art. The classroom was yelling with offers for this painting. In the end Lynx captured the piece for a whopping $21.

Last but not least was the most exciting moment when the handmade items made come out. As soon as the handmade islands and the bouquet of thousand paper cranes appeared, the whole room was in an uproar. No one was unmoved by their beauty. Even the bouquet carried a faint fragrance. The more the auction went on, the more passionate the voice became. The dragon’s origami work that appeared in the finale reached a very high price. Auction in everyone’s clamor in the successful conclusion.

This art auction allowed students who love art to get a chance to show off, and also made them realize the importance and beauty of art works in life. While bidding, students exercised their thinking skills and understood that art cannot be measured, it is the crystallization of human thought.
