Language is a significant way to understand various national cultures. At BCOS, students also have the opportunity to delve into the beauty and local customs of France through an optional French course this term. Now, we often hear students conversing in French, creating a romantic atmosphere.

In our first lesson, we entered the classroom with some apprehension about learning a new language and concerns about pronunciations. Mr. Vincent was well aware of the anxieties beginners like us might have, so he patiently guided us. We began by learning the French greeting words “Comment ça va?” Mr. Vincent speaks slowly to help us grasp the pronunciations, and everyone followed suit, learning quickly. These elegant French voices even caught the attention of Ms. Black, who was teaching in the adjacent classroom. She remarks that although our voices reached her, they are quite beautiful and she really enjoyed the background music like this. French is known for romance, and learning to exchange pleasantries in French is really cool. Although there is an additional Tuesday noon class, French class students feel no fatigue, as they’re all immersed in the joy of learning.

During interviews with students, another impressive class was learning the French song “Frère Jacques.” One student said that “I learned a lot of French words while singing the songs. I truly believe it adds colors to my life.” When the music began, Mr. Vincent gracefully raises his hand and directs each group to cooperates in singings. The classrooms resonates with sweet melodies. The tunes of the songs were reminiscent of the childhood favorites “Two Tigers,” which we used to sings. As a result, everyone is quite proficient at it. It was a wonderful feeling, like singing our childhood songs in French. As the sun is sparkling on our desks, students paint a vibrant picture of their enthusiastic journeys of learning with their warm, sparkling eyes.

Especially, it is a way to give us a passion for life to learn a new language. The students’ studying with curious eyes in French class make the school livelier. Learning a new language can also help us to open up more possibilities for our future. In this big family, students will always have more opportunities to pursue various kinds of futures.
