Hello everyone, in the “Student star” this month we are going to introduce Linda’s determined effort on study, sports and environmental protection.

Keep Learning

No doubt under the great stress of graduating from the high school and applying for the universities, it is less likely to remain calm for most of the Grade 12 students. Despite the pressure, Linda sticks to working at her pace, going ahead step by step. All courses with the average at approximately 98% (except English12), grants her three offers so far, even one of them is given by the faculty of math from University of Alberta. “Linda’s rule in life is to have a regular bed and wake-up time, obeying the rule rigorously with strong self-control.” Her roommate Vicky said. “Every evening study I never saw her not working hard.” To achieve the incredibly high averages, she persists on her effective review and examination strategy. Before the tests, Linda is always diligent, memorizing all the notes on the handouts and previous errors, doing those questions over and over again to ensure they are clearly understood. When she comes across points that are difficult to grasp, she likes to discuss with teachers and students until she completely understands them. Also, during tests, she tries not to make any preliminary mistakes. Furthermore, she excels at time management. If she has trouble solving a problem, she thinks about it first, or continues think about it after all others are done. Normal homework is treated like an examination, completed, checked and corrected as carefully as possible.

Keep Exercising

Not only does Linda insist on her own pace of learning, Linda persists in playing table tennis over a 12-year period, winning second place in the table tennis team match in Jiaxing City this year. Like many other common table tennis amateurs, Linda started to play table tennis to keep physical health. Linda told us, “it is quite tiring to practice the steps when playing doubles, and collisions with the partner and falling down are countless.” No matter how severe the condition is, Linda still participate in matches, winning prizes successfully each year after her first two years. This year, she will attend matches in Jiaxing City. Linda believes that the competitions can make her improve her table tennis skills and broaden her horizon at the same time by observing how others play. Table tennis teaches her to rest between working periods, and to be more organized so that she will be more efficient in the study later.

Keep Protecting the Environment

As well as knowing how to strike a proper balance between work and rest, Linda also takes action helping Principal Mercer begin the school’s first project. Originally, she started to help her Speak Up Team, but Linda has insisted on the project since then, continually making contributions to research how recycling should be sorted in Jiaxing and to procure recycling containers for our BC offshore school.
