It’s the end of April and start of May and while the grass on the playground is growing, we once again gathered and trained for the Frisbee season co-sponsored by various Canadian overseas schools. Due to the conflict between the date of the competition and the arrangement of the BC English Provincial Examination for Grade 12, the senior students had to miss this year’s tournament. The absence of the experienced team-members was undoubtedly a heavy blow to our Frisbee Team, but it also inspired the students of Grade 10 and Grade 11 to work harder and join in the team. They held the hope and responsibility so that they took every practice seriously.

In order to help us understand the rules and techniques of the Frisbee game as soon as possible, our Frisbee coach Mr. C considered and planned a lot. Under his strategic guidance, we improved a lot. We improved the speed through one-to-one practice. At the same time, the three-person group practices enhance team members’ ability of attacking and defending, which is also the main skill we will use in the real game. After we were clear and possessed those basic skills, Mr. C carefully selected teaching videos to help with our understanding of the game. Then we started to have mock games. Grade 12 students also helped a lot in this section even if they could not participate in the finals game, but they still actively participated in the training whenever the conditions permitted. Initially, Mr. C mainly arranged the grade 11 and grade12 teams to take part in the game, since the whole process of the game can help the freshman learn a lot while they are watching in the best position on the side field. Then, in order to ensure the new-leaners quickly absorb the theory and skills learned, Mr. C changed the arrangements of the members to ensure that every student has the opportunity to practice.

It’s finally the day of the game! Without the accompanying grade 12 players, the rest of us get a sense of fighting alone, so most of us feel anxious, but still we are inspired. Before the first match its starts to rain and the muddy ground made the conditions harsher. The failure of the first and second matches did not discourage us. Every student is supported and encouraged by each other. Finally, we won the third match by an absolute advantage of 11:3. That shows our recognition and promotion of each Frisbee team member. The length of the competition is only half a day, but this shows the efforts that been made of the students. With the teacher’s successful training methods in this students’ Frisbee campaign our school has won the fifth place.
