On November 30, four teams from Jiaxing BCOS, led by Ms. Mercer, Dr. Levirs and Mr. Gu, came to Shanghai to participate in the two-day ASDAN youth simulation business event. A total of 34 teams came from different schools to take part in this competition. Jiaxing Senior High BCOS students thought carefully and were decisive in the competition, and all obtained the qualification to participate in the international final competition. Also, there were two teams led by Leo and Ian that each won third prize!
ASDAN simulates the operating environment and decision-making process of the market and company, including market decision-making, business competition, and auction. In addition, contestants are required to present in English to show their brand identity, product display, business planning, and sales plan to the chairman and all the companies, so as to win more working capital for the company. This leads students to work in teams and honed their learning and practical ability, public speaking skill, market analysis capacity, as well as problem-solving and communication skills, which not only broadens their horizons but also improves their knowledge about business and prepares them for applying for business.
There were 34 teams participating in the business competition, each of which had a high spirit. Different teams had different styles, either mature or quick-witted, and the players’ youthful faces and professional dress enhanced the crucial feeling of the game. Students in our school began to discuss it immediately and calculate fiercely. After knowing the rules and operation law, they tried to make plans bravely and calculate carefully. A “new company” developed with their cooperation. In the preparing room, the company members sit together, busily working in tandem. According to the division of labor, the “designer” created the poster and logo which followed ideas of team brand identity. Using a calculator, the accountant worked hard on the draft calculations to figure out the highest profit. The “decision-maker” excitedly prepared the content of the speech. The organizer kindly arranged a row of Coca Cola on the table of each team, and the words of encouragement on the cola inspired every contestant.
The most interesting and meaningful part was the auction. After the bid, the person in charge looked for partners among different companies to make trades. The whole store was busy. The team members gathered together to discuss the strategy quietly, and the huge countdown on the screen added a lot of pressure to the entire session.
In every round, the students of Jiaxing BCOS showed a rigorous and serious attitude. It was not an accident that they could achieve such good results, which meant the clear division of labor through teamwork was the key to success. In this competition, there were lots of students in G10. When they faced powerful opponents, they didn’t give up or run away, and they managed to solve problems, glitches, and even difficulties, which also became the high light of this competition.
It was an unforgettable experience. It was as if the students had stepped into society ahead of time and participated in the real workforce. Indeed, they gained business knowledge and valuable experience. They will enjoy more the simplicity and lack of worry about their school days.
What great teams and students! Also, we hope that more students can take part in the competition next year.
