Studying at Jiaxing BCOS is not only an extraordinary journey to gain knowledge, but also a great opportunity to improve ourselves. There are many kinds of clubs that students can choose to join according to their own interests and hobbies. There are no age boundaries, which means the students can communicate and collaborate with people from all grades. One of the most distinctive features of the BCOS clubs is that students will have self-learning courses under the guidance of instructors. In short, students are teaching themselves. To make sure students have comprehensive development, the instructors guide a variety of areas, including business, programming, outdoor activities (warm-up exercise and all kinds of ball games), dance, art and photography. Come on! Let’s check out which one interests you the most.

Entrepreneurship and Marketing: This course attracts many students who are interested in business knowledge. The instructor, Mr. Lee, is a careful and patient teacher. Mr. Lee prepares handouts before class for the grade 10s, grade 11s, and grade 12s who do not have enough business-related knowledge. The class teaches students the basics of business, including creating value, the factors that drive purchase, and iteration cycles. Mr. Lee will also prepare appropriate homework for consolidation after class. Compared with other clubs, the business club has the most homework. The interest towards business made the students enjoy it and even made the piles of business papers appear lovely.

Programming: In Programming, Mr. Hughes creatively created a teaching style in which students self-study. The teacher guides the students to search for materials and provides some special supports when needed. The students in this club work together and improve their programming skills together. This style of teaching digs up the underlying potential of different students and ensures the efficiency of learning which adheres to truth-seeking, with a pragmatic and practical spirit. Our programming skills were improved, and at the same time we also gained happiness. Here, students experience the fun of learning programming regardless of their programming skills. One student who studies programming said he was satisfied by the huge sense of accomplishment as he finished typing his last line of code and saw his application running smoothly.

Dance: In Dance, training is done in a new and unconventional way. Not only traditional Chinese dance but also modern dance including cool jazz. Led by Mr. O’Ryan, students are free to choose their own dance styles to practice and break out of their unique dance moves. We can always see Dance members at various cultural festivals. They always make a good show for everyone.

Art: In Art class, Ms. Gu sets out to cultivate students’ creative thinking habits of exploration and discovery. Every student who participates in Art class is a thoughtful and creative artist. Under the guidance of the teacher, students keep thinking and get inspired to draw their “inner voices”. At the same time, students’ works will also be applied to the design of class uniforms and the logo design for various school badges, team emblems, and uniforms to better demonstrate their creativity. Many lovely and beautiful BCOS products were made by their skillful hands.

Photography: Photography class is taught by the gentle and gracious Ms. Wynnychuk. She teaches in a humorous way. Under her leadership, photography students received many inspirations and create many works of art.

Fitness class: The instructor of this club, Mr. Wynnychuck, is a very strong and healthy man. He leads his class to try many ways to keep fit. Compared to Active Living, led by Mr. Haack, the Fitness Club focuses more on anaerobic exercise, including push-ups, tummy tucks, and weightlifting. After the practice, Mr. Wynnychuk leads the class to learn some theoretical knowledge regarding the exercises. Practice and theory are always complementary to each other. Fitness class has carried this idea through to the end, and students have benefited a lot from it.

Active Living: In Active Living class, Mr. Haack taught the students a lot about ball games. He also explained the rules of rugby to the students. Active Living is more of a learning skills class. This course enables students to have more sports-specific skills, strengthen physical fitness, and improve their understanding and love for new sports.

While running different club activities, the leaders and teachers will give systematic scores according to students’ performance in different aspects such as homework, reflections, presentations, personal creative works and so on. Also, they will provide proper guidance to develop students’ passions and strengths in certain areas. Additionally, encouraging them to develop their personality is also important. Compared to knowledge from the textbook, we focus more on the comprehensive development of students.

This new course is very popular with the students, and everyone engages deeply in the course they chose. In the future, Jiaxing BCOS will create new courses in different styles. Let us wait and see what will happen then!
